Incorrect Dates returned from sharepoint

I am using data.js to read data from a sharepoint 2010 site. I have a list called holidays with a date field called HolidayDate. It’s a Date and Time field and has been set to display the 'Date Only'

In the Site’s Regional Settings , the time zone is set to (UTC - 500) Eastern Time, and the time zone on my desktop is Eastern standard time.

I added a new Holiday to my Holiday table and set the date to July 4, 2013.
When I retrieve the date with data.js (and set recognizeDates to true), the date retrieved shows in my javascript debugger ass Wed Jul 3 20:00:00 EDT 2013.
Using fiddler I see that the JSON value returned was "HolidayDate": "\/Date(1372896000000)\/",

So iIn the Site’s Regional Settings of the site I changed the Time zone of the site to (UTC) Coordinated Universal Time.
Now when I retrieve the date, it is displayed as Thu Jul 4 00:00:00 EDT 2013 and using fiddler I see the date returned as "HolidayDate": "\/Date(1372910400000)\/"

How Can I get data js to properly display the date , Even if the sites time zone is UTC-500.
