running the "read data" sample -- the resulting URL doesn't like the "$format=json" parameter

I'm running the "Read Data" sample provided in this site.

If I just search for "HTML", this is the resulting URL that gets generated:

http://tv.telerik.com/services/odata.svc/Videos?$select=Name,Description,ImageUrl,Url&$top=50&$orderby=DatePublish%20desc&$filter=substringof('HTML',%20Description)&$callback=parent.handleJSONP_5&$format=json

OK, so it doesn't like the callback parameter. I get this:
The query parameter '$callback' begins with a system-reserved '$' character but is not recognized.

But then I remove that parameter, just for testing purposes, and I get this:
The query parameter '$format' begins with a system-reserved '$' character but is not recognized.

This is supposed to be a JSONP example, yet it doesn't like the $format=json parameter either? What's going on here?
